TL;DR: If you're a new knitter and on a budget I would recommend saving your money and buying the ugly metal and blue plastic swift instead of this (you know the one, it's probably half the price of this one.) If you have a bit bigger budget, I would just recommend getting one made with hardwood and/or with metal clamp/screw -- those cost more for a reason!Essentially giving this 1 star per year that it was in good working order. This was my first swift I ever purchased. It lived attached to my desk at home for most of those two years and while it was there and working it was pretty good. Good enough that I almost feel bad to give it only two stars. However, I have had to repair this swift more than once. The top cap (that keeps the turning portion of the swift from coming off the pole) has come off multiple times. First time it came off was after I took it with me on a car trip only 3 hours, while stored in the back of my car the cap came off. I think it was only glued on originally, and I have superglued it back every time it has come off. Very annoying, but not an entire dealbreaker. What IS a dealbreaker is the clamp mechanism. I have not taken this swift off my desk and clamped it to another surface more than a maximum of like 20 times and now I cannot make it clamp to anything anymore. The threading inside of the clamp base has worn down so much that even a little pressure on the wooden turning screw portion of the clamp will just slip down to the previous notch. It is impossible to use in this state as I can't clamp it to any surface and I am not willing to jerry-rig it to work otherwise. Despite its looks, this is not a well-crafted swift and I do not think this is made from any sort of hardwood, as swifts made from better wood cost much more than this one. I got what I paid for here, I didn't have much money buy wanted the look of a nice wooden swift. I should have gotten a metal one or saved my money.

The screw to hold the umbrella broke when I tried to tighten it the first time. The was a flaw in the wood. QC or the worker making it should have spotted it. The rest of the swift looks good. I am returning the swift.

While I am not personally using this, the intended recipient is over the moon happy with it. There are a ton of cheap plastic sifts out there. But the rosewood on this has such a warm feeling to it. The operation is smooth, it clamps tightly to the table and had no issues falling off or coming loose. I was initially skeptical about the nylon rope connecting the parts, but after seeing it in operation, it provides a sturdy. flexible connection, the nylon probably will not wear as fast as cotton, and will be less friction against the wood to create wear. You are probably thinking, well, how much wear can it get? It's yard for gosh sakes. WELLLLL....when there is a LOT of yarn. and Oh I do mean a LOT LOT LOT of yarn. it is in almost constant use for several hours every night. I wish I had a usage meter on it so I could tell you how many hours are on it since Christmas. Maybe my next ESP32 microcontroller project will be a usage monitor for the swift. She will LOVE that I'm sure.Buy it. Don't cheap out. It is beautiful, functional, durable and I highly recommend it.

The wooden screw does not work so it will not tighten to a table or other surface. It is essential useless without a second person to hold it while you wind. Super disappointed.

Arrived in perfect condition. Furniture grade wood finish. I set it up and used it within 5 minutes of delivery. No issues, worked great. Would definitely recommend this tool to beginners or professionals.

This seems very sturdy and was easy to assemble. There are some screws that my yarns has gotten stuck on a few times. I'm wondering how that could be avoided but mostly this has been great.

I have never owned a swift. Recently I have purchased yarn in hanks rather than the usual pull skeins. This swift makes it easy for me to mount the hank and wind the yarn into a ball by myself. The wood is beautiful and the craftsmanship is wonderful.

As it turns out, most hanks of yarn fit just fine on my computer keyboard tray. So why bother with a swift? Because winding yarn that way...back and forth...causes massive pain in already fragile shoulders. This swift is a tool...like quality yarn, or a good ergonomic hook or perfect dpn's, this will save you hours and be something you have for a lifetime. The evidence of excellent craftmanship is present the minute you hold it. This swift is solid. The slats are sturdy. The knobs are large and well made. The wood from top to bottom is well sanded and is smooth. The swift operates smoothly as well. In essence, this is something you can be proud to own and glad you got.

The wood used here is really high quality, great finish to it and the product is simple to use. Works perfectly with the wool winder keeping a nice steady flow of yarn from the hank.
