I tried to set up and realized that one of the parts that are part of the table vise pieces is missing the rubber gripping piece. Thus makes the swift unstable and not very useful at all. I think it would be a goid product if only akk parts received.

The swift itself is great, if a little fragile feeling. The problem comes from the clamp that attaches to the table. The clamp only extends about an inch from the base, and even tightened as hard as possible, it just kept slipping, because the clamp just doesn't cover enough space to attach securely. I used an old carpenter's trick and stuck a felt coaster on the underside of the table between the clamp and the wood. This seemed to do the trick nicely and the whole thing feels a lot more secure.

I use a yarn swift to wind yarn into cakes from hanks, or to wind loose yarn back into hanks so it preserves the quality of the material. I discovered quickly this doesn't serve the latter purpose like I needed it to.I imagine using it in tandem with a ball winder would go smoothly, but that is one of two purposes of the tool. The handle at the top of the tool is fixed, so when turning it you'll cause the swift to sway to a varying degree. This would cause the yarn to wind underneath the bars and you'd either have to rewind it, or simply accept the hank would be uneven and cause tangling later on.Another issue, it isn't clear how many grams of yarn this umbrella swift can handle until it is overloaded. If you wind too much, even on the maximum size it won't properly twist into the hank, and you will need to restart.Finally, take caution, as its all exposed metal. My yarn would repeatedly snag on things if I didn't go very carefully, and it took a scratch to realize one of the legs had snapped. It managed to hold its shape when working, but it now had a rough edge, and struggled to properly close and lay flat.It would be a good investment for a beginner who intends to buy hanked up yarn, and didn't want it wound in store. It teaches you about how the basic functions work, and so long as you're gentle with it, it should last until you feel its acceptable to upgrade to a higher quality or different model swift. There are other types besides umbrella, but I find it to be the most convenient to store and set up in comparison to others, as well as affordable.

The clamp which is meant to hold this swift to the desk is very small, which does not allow for much grip causing it to come off the desk if you are not paying attention. The handle to crank the swift is very small and is hard to use. Some weights of yarn cause the part that holds the swift open to start sliding closed. The first time this happened to me I did not know to expect it so my ball of yarn became very tangled, and it took me hours to untangle the yarn, after that I started to watch the center to see when it started to fall.It works but it did not speed up my process for winding yarn.

I like this yarn ball winder. It does exactly what it is meant to do. It's easy to use, easy to install. The ONLY thing I can think of that you need to keep in mind, is to make sure that where you install it, it is sturdy. It has to be a surface that can hold it well and the clamp can hold on tight to it. If you don't make sure of that before you start winding, then you will have a problem. Other then that, I like mine, I use it all the time and don't know how I didn't buy this before. Recommend.

I'm very happy with thin yarn swift. It was easy to set up and use without instructions and worked beautifully. The storage bag is a great bonus. The pom-pom makers included was a nice surprise. I would recommend this product to anyone needing to unwind their skeins of yarn.

Easy set up and use. Used it to wind about 12 hanks. I like that it has a storage bag. Pom Pom makers are a little flimsy compared to my clover ones but cool lil extra.

Swift arrived in a paper envelope. Not a good sign. Delicate, flimsy construction-do not breathe heavily or it will fall apart. Crank on top of swift is iffy. IF it works it does not turn smoothly but with inconsistent speed and many hesitations. Securing swift to a tabletop is a problem. The screw on clamp is atrocious, will not hold firmly and frequently fails entirely. A plus? The pompom makers are free. ...
