The actual fastener worked and fit the Trex brand decking with no issues whatsoever. However, the screws are very low quality - they are lightweight and the head strips very easily. I actually had to purchase a better made screw to make the job go smoothly and provide the quality of work that my customers expect. In my personal professional opinion I would go with another better made brand.

These were some great hidden fasteners for installing the top boards on my deck! They are well made and high quality and worked perfectly for my particular application. They are easy to use and install, and I like that the drill/driver bits were included. Overall, I am pleased with this product, so it receives five stars from me all the way!

The deck I am replacing has rot in some screw penetrations and, due to sever summer weather required yearly maintenance and has many spits which is not only unsightly but hazardous on bare feet. I have therefore decided to replace the decking with composite boards and want to use hidden fasteners too streamline the look. These should be perfect. At only $0.11 per piece these are by far more economical than anything I found locally which is almost 227% more expensive at $0.36 per piece. That's a substantial savings by itself. Also, they are only $0.01 more than 2-inch composite decking screws which I think would be unsightly. Are they better or worse? I can only subjectively say.The plastic inserts are quite strong, made from a nice strong and durable high-density plastic/nylon type material (possibly ABS?).I took three out of the package to test. I screwed and unscrewed each piece several times into hard wood and found no problems until I used an impact wrench to see if the screws would go through or break the plastic. The only thing that happened was the screw head stripped as I bottomed it out. However, if you use appropriate pressure when screwing it in, so that the bit does not slip, I had no problem screwing them in and out and doing that multiple times. If you just go slow and snug them up, and do not over tighten, you should not have a problem.I then took a hammer to one plastic insert and it took quite a bit of punishment to break it (something that will not happen under normal use) I then bent a screw using two pliers and it did not break even at almost a 90-degree angle. it took three bends back and forth before the screw broke. At this price and, for the amount given, I think these are above and beyond my expectations. While I am not an expert and, my tests were not scientific, I highly recommend these clips.

First of all, the screws are too soft to be stainless. The stars strip without much pressure. Not sure how long they will last before they start popping out. Also, be aware that although the width of the plastic is 1/4", the gap is slightly more. Depending on the size of your deck, you should take that into consideration. If we had to do it over again, we wouldn't buy these again.
