I haven't tested all the functions of this because I don't, for example, need help figuring out the area of a room. I like that it has a manual and a laser function. They both work fine and you can change measurements to feet, inches, meters, or centimeters. I just feel like it's not entirely intuitive and at first I thought it wasn't working. I haven't tested the limits to make sure that it will measure up to 262 feet but it seems to work as it's supposed to! If you've shopped around for one of these at Home Depot, you know it's a great price for a laser measuring tape, too.

I've never had any type of laser distance finder before, and I thought these would come in handy for tons of projects around the house, and so far this seems to be the case. It's got a standard tape measure that is 16 feet long, along with the button to lock it in place when extended. In addition to this there is a laser that will measure any distance you need. It came set up for meters, which I had to change immediately of course because everything in the US is based on feet and inches. Thankfully this was fairly easy to do and was explained in the instructions. Initially, to my dismay, I started checking the accuracy by comparing the tape measure reading to the laser reading and they weren't even close. On further studying of the instructions I discovered that you can set the point of origin of the laser to either the front of back of the unit, and it defaults to the back. Once I set it to read from the front instead, it gave almost the exact same distance reading as the actual tape measure. I can see the benefit of being able to change the reading from the front or back, because for example if you want to measure the width of a room you can just set it to read from the back and hold it right up against the wall and get an accurate measurement. Additionally, it can measure area, volume, and it can utilize the Pythagorean theorem to calculate the height of things. Pretty cool! The tape itself is a bit difficult to read. It takes a few seconds of staring to figure out which number you are looking at. I've just never seen a tape measure with marking set up like this one. Overall, this is a great measuring tool. I think though, if you need really exact measurements, these won't do it, but should get you to pretty close, which works for most applications.

What a handy gadget! This would be perfect for building inspectors or realtors, where sometimes you need to measure something small like a countertop or large like a ceiling. Accuracy-wise it is spot on out to 16 feet with other name brand tape measures, and the laser rangefinder agrees too. The tape also includes inch and metric markings, whereas most tape measures sold in the US only have inches.The user interface is a little daunting at first, but you get used to it. When using the rangefinder, the laser diode stays on but doesn’t actually take a measurement until you press the button again, at which point it turns off the laser and displays a reading. You can also press and hold the button to take constant measurements, about one per second, and the laser will flicker. It seems strange that it can’t record a measurement while keeping the laser on, but hey, it works.It has a ton of geometric calculations built right in: area, volume, and “pythagorean” measurement, which calculates the length of the opposite side of a right triangle by measuring the adjacent edge and hypotenuse. Hope you paid attention in trigonometry! Despite only having two buttons, they were all surprisingly easy to use.It also stores the last 30 measurements in memory and has an auto-shutoff after about two minutes of inactivity. There are a ton of features packed into the software of this little device. I’ve used other laser rangefinders from established brands that don’t even come close.As for the downsides, there are a few. The tape measure doesn’t have a magnet on the... metal bit on the end. The “tang.” Most tape measures come with that now, and I have found a magnet to be handy when measuring stuff near HVAC ducts or other steel surfaces. The tape itself is a little thin and flimsy, but it does have a deep enough curve to keep its shape while you’re extending it. And it beeps... a lot. Every button press is a beep. Every measurement is two beeps. In continuous-reading mode, it’s continuously beeping. Power on is two beeps, power off is one long beep. I couldn’t find an option to turn the beeping off. If I were using this on the regular, I would probably end up taking it apart and ripping the buzzer out. And one thing that feels like a software bug: if you change the units from “meters” to anything else, then cycle through the other modes and back to the measurement mode, it resets the units back to “meters.” Maybe it’s time we switched anyway...For some reason, I thought it would show the physical tape measure reading on the display while you’re using it, but it does not. It really is just two separate measuring tools merged into one.Overall, I am very happy with this little device, and it has earned a place on my tool wall.

We were very happy to find a feature packed tape measure for a great price! The laser measure is reasonably accurate. The rechargeable battery is low capacity, but it doesn't use much power while in use, so it lasts a good while in use and while stored.(as always, be sure to recharge your lithium devices often so they don't discharge too low). The laser measure is also useful, and has the same features you expect in hardware store brand laser measurement devices. What's most useful in this case is the fact that the tape has both inches AND centimeters! A very useful feature that is lacking on most hardware store tape measures! While most people won't care, anyone that appreciates the metric system for easy calculations and analytics will be happy to know that it has both!
