These are the standard, prolific whistle type, used for all sorts of water sports - perfect for kayaking, hiking, etc. You can tie the lanyard to the shoulder strap of your PFD, and then clip it, so it's not bouncing all over the place. These are no better, no worse, than others of this design - but at 4 for $10, they are attractively priced, enough so that I now have a bunch of spares on-hand, in case anyone comes up short.

These are plenty loud to serve as an emergency whistle for hikers, they are very light which is always appreciated, and they clip nicely onto the shoulder strap of a backpack. I prefer not the use the lanyard. I think everyone should hike with these, so I got the 4 pack to hand out to hiking friends. A good deal for a product that performs the task successfully.
