The tension pin flips out when squeezing the sifter handle. I remember when Cuisinart stood for high quality and reputation, but those standards are no longer apparent.

I wanted to love it but after only 2 uses and hand washing it’s rusted. I’ve had a cheaper version that lasted me 5 years. I’ve had this one a month.

Works as intended, only issue is that I washed in warm water than hand dried it and sat it in a nice airy environment to fully dry screens came back to it that night and screen rusted a bit
