This shelf is probably going to be a little larger than you expect, so double-check the dimensions to make sure it fits your space. That said, it's a fantastic desk shelf. Even though the color didn’t seem like it would match my desk aesthetically, I have to admit—once set up, they almost look like they were sold together. One of the best features is that the shelving side is interchangeable for your convenience—or, in my case, due to my happy little mistake. Since I built it myself, I’ll go ahead and toot my own horn and say I did a fine job assembling it. The materials are solid, well-sourced, and all the holes aligned perfectly. They include a hex key, but you’ll also need a small screwdriver to attach the outlet. No complaints there—it’s currently housing three USB cords and the plugs for a lamp and an Alexa. One word of advice: I’m no electrician, but I wouldn’t plug this into an additional power strip. Plug it directly into the wall for safety. All in all, this was an awesome addition to my desk setup. It’s helped declutter my space since I was able to move my speakers and CPU off the desk, meaning all those wires can now be neatly organized and separated. If you’re looking for a well-made, functional desk shelf, you’ll love this—just be sure to secure it to the wall for extra stability!

1) get yourself a ratcheting screwdriver and a tip set before starting this project. Yes, you can use the Allen wrench provided, but I PROMISE you you’ll appreciate having the screwdriver around instead. You will use regular sharp-tipped screws to put some of the shelf boards in, and they’re LONG, so spend 5$ on the screwdriver and save yourself a ton of hassle.2) one of the drill holes is missing in my set to affix the back’s gridded-type frame. See photo for details. No matter which orientation you put it in, it seems to me like they accidentally drilled the hole on the other side, so that piece can only be put together with 3 screws. Not a big deal; I have a drill, can fix it myself. Be aware though. I circled the pieces in the diagram in the picture where you’ll run into this issue if it wasn’t an isolated incident. (Note it was not, another reviewer had the same issue)3) easy to assemble but the directions aren’t clear. Once the pieces are out of the bags, they’re very hard to keep separate and remember which ones are which so you don’t put the longer shelf pieces in backwards (which I did). This could be easily solved with a sticker. Additionally, the bags of screws aren’t labeled at all, and the shortest screws and Allen wrench are combined into other bags, so you have to take a minute before starting to make sure you have all of them + remember which bag is labeled to which number by memory. This is a frustrating step for ADHD folks/elderly that might have trouble with this sort of thing. Thankfully im only the former, but it was additional mental work for something that could’ve been remedied with better instructions.4) it does take up space, and save it at the same time. Yes, you can now store things vertically, but be prepared for the feet to take up space on the surface of your desk. This works best on stupidly large desks, and I wouldn’t use it with a desk that has close to the same measurements as this out of fear of one of the feet slipping off the back or side and all of your belongings going tumbling to the floor. Now onto the good:This is a very nice, tall, expensive looking desk shelf for around 30$ (edit: the price has gone up since I ordered to $45, see note below). It adds a lot of appeal to my desk because now my knickknacks can be organized on the shelves and allow for more working surface space. It’s ridiculously sturdy once it’s put together because of the metal frame and the screws going directly into the wooden shelf pieces. The dark wood stain finish is nice and neutral and doesn’t look cheap - goes with a lot of different types of wood finishes but looks especially nice combined with my black oak desk. All in all : it’s good for what it is. It can be improved on. I think for 45$ you shouldn’t have to work so hard to assemble it due to poor instructions alone, which is the only reason for the 3 stars, plus the missing drill hole. If these issues were corrected, it would be a 5/5.

The product arrived to me ready to assemble which included 15 parts, 3 different screws in their own compartments and was well packaged. It probably took me a good hour to put this product together due to installing two side frames in backwards, not realizing there was a slight difference of one that made it crucial in order to install the back-frame correctly. Not a big problem to fix though written instructions rather than pictorials alone would have avoided it altogether. Secondly, one of the side frames was missing one drill hole in order to fasten the frame in the back but regardless, the frame in the back still provided support to the entire shelving unit without it. The desktop bookshelf is nice though I don't see any textbooks being organized there. The spaces are rather small and good enough for stacking other small objects. My small USB fan and a mini bluetooth speaker alone took up space of one shelf. Also, I found all the space between the top shelf and my computer to be useless. This could have been designed to have the top shelf come down two or three inches above the computer space or had another shelf added. Instead, there's this gap and need to stand up in order to place or reach for anything on the top shelf.Update: It's been almost 2 months later since receiving this desktop bookshelf and I find that I'm giving it away already when it came time to dust the thing. The complaints I gave prior stand. The product is built tough but the design is just not good. The shelf space is very small and didn't save a lot of desk space.
