Liquid Audio (the third party seller) and/or Amazon (order fulfillment) made the disappointing choice of shipping this pickup in a bubble mailer, which did not protect the product from stresses and impacts it was subjected to while in transit. My product packaging arrived cracked and broken. The product itself was unmarred, but... c'mon guys. You can do better. Before making the purchase I was concerned about the fit because according to DiMarzio specs this pickup is 71mm wide, and my pickup ring opening is only 69.5mm wide. But in reality, the pickup tapers slightly toward the top (face) and it fit the stock pickup ring perfectly. The pickup width at the top of the pickup cover measured 69.2mm wide on my example. The pickup went into the neck position of a PRS S2 McCarty 594. No other changes were made to the guitar's wiring. In this configuration, and to my ears, the DiMarzio has a little more focus and punch, and a little less warmth and girth to its voice than the stock G&B pickup. Put another way, the stock pickup is voiced like Sister Rosetta Tharpe while the DiMarzio sounds more like Billie Holiday. Or to draw a more contemporary comparison, the stock pickup is Adele while the DiMarzio is more Taylor Swift. No matter the comparison, a common complaint about S2 McCarty models is that the stock neck pickup is *too* warm and girthy, and if that’s an issue for you, this pickup is worthy of your consideration as a replacement.

Bought this to replace factory Ibanez "Infinity R" pickups in an Artcore AM73. Only complaint is the neck pickup leads egress at the top left of the pickup when pole pieces are at the neck end. This puts them about as far away from the body cavity they need to be fed through, leaving them a couple inches shorter than is comfortable when trying to connect to the pickups. Once I got it hooked up and the pole pieces adjusted, it sounds amazing.

I bought this to replace a stock pickup in the neck position but wanted to keep the coil split capability and this worked out great. I get great tones either as a humbucker or split to single coil. There is a volume drop like any other pickup in split mode but the tone is still there. From blues to rock and shoegaze this pickup can do it all.
