Rain guages almost without fail have a specific diameter holder. This one is advertised as about one inch. SORRY FOLKS, 3/4" (THE ACTUAL SIZE) IS NOT 1 INCH. Then, after 45 minutes in shop to find a way to use it, after the first rain, I found out the amount it records is 25% high. The markings on the tube go from zero to five inches, but if you meausre it with a ruler it is not even close to 5 inches. Somebody perhaps had a problem trnslating their metric to inches?? TOTAL FAIL!As usual, Amazon makes returns very easy, especially when they use the USPS and you can leave it in your mailbox.

It is perfect and well packaged. Unfortunately 1 broke the first week because it rained and then had freezing temps that Froze the water. My fault for not bringing it inside. I will wait until warm weather is here for good before putting out.

I purchased the 5" plastic tubes as a replacement for my rain gauge. The 7" tubes from this seller are glass, and the 5" ones are plastic, so just make sure you order correctly! The plastic tubes are great quality - they almost look like glass, they are super clear and sturdy. Received two, as stated in product description, so now I have a backup as well.

It never fails. I always forget to bring my rain gauges in in the fall before the first freeze. No fault of the glass rain gauge, I know they will break. Anyway it is nice to buy new ones for a reasonable price.

I decided to take a chance on this rain gauge tube to replace one that had broken. The product description on Amazon is confusing and inaccurate - one line says glass, another says plastic; not clear if there will be one or two tubes provided for the stated price, and the given dimensions are wrong. I received a package containing two (2) glass rain gauges. Each is pretty sturdy with clear gauge dimensions. Each has a very big lip which may or may not affect the accuracy but I don't plan on using them for meteorology reporting. The dimensions are not "2.25 x 8 x 2.75 Inches" as stated in the description. The dimensions are 1.75" OD x 1.625" ID x 8.375" L. As far as I am concerned this is a good product for the price.

Item actually received is contrary to the info provided by Amazon on this item...BUT is probably the one many people are actually looking for. The dimensions of this GLASS replacement cylinder/tube are as follows: Outside DIAMETER of this tube/cylinder from the base to just under the flange is 1.75". The HEIGHT of the entire replacement tube is 8.25" from the base to the top of the flange. The DIAMETER of the flange is between 2.25" and about 2.4" which should not be an issue if the flange is used to 'hang' the tube in the older (see picture). There is NOTHING measuring 2.75" on this item. That being said... THIS was the replacement vial/tube I needed for my rain gauge holder. It fits perfectly. I have left extensive comments for the SELLER regarding the description discrepancies. Also refer to the questions submitted on this item. I gave 'accuracy' a single star for two reasons 1) the terribly misleading errors in this item's description and, 2.) this gauge will not be an 'accurate' rain gauge because of the flange that with catch & drain extra water INTO the tube thus skewing the actual amount of rain that would fall into a 1.75" tube with no flange. I sincerely doubt the gauging is adjusted for this fact. However, it's OK for 'decorative' uses, just not scientific. Also, because it's glass, put it away in a 'dry' area for the 'season' once temps drop to freezing. Otherwise, like me, you'll need to buy another one next year.*** COMMENT for AMAZON.... Please teach your packers to use BOXES and adequate bubblewrap when shipping GLASS. Thankfully, mine was not broken... it came in a common padded ENVELOPE with ONE layer of bubble wrap around the glass tube within it.
