I tested airborne mold with this test. I wanted to identify if we have a problem with unseen molds in our 1930's home. I placed one petri dish in each of 3 areas - upstairs, main floor, and basement. It said to leave out for 1-2 hours. Probably left out for 2-3 hours. I didn't care for the way the instructions to cover them, so I placed each in it's own ziploc sandwich bag. Sure enough after about 2 days, the mold began to culture. Our upper level bedroom one, where I was concerned, actually showed the least grown only a small spot or 2. The basement where we need to run dehumidifiers in the summer, showed more mold, and our main floor showed several molds. These pictures are after I let the molds grow for about 3 days. The one with the most may have been affected by movement. The test had said to shut off fans, etc, however this was in a high traffic area and we did not isolate it, also near the kitchen, an exterior door and in the room where recent water damage occurred. I felt like the test gave a good starting point to know what we may/may not have going on in our old home. As far as identifying the mold types - the pictures in the book were hard to use, but the descriptions were good.

This is a very complete mold test kit. It comes with everything you need in order to test the air or surface areas of your home for possible mold. The kit comes with three Petri dishes/agar plates and covers, three Ziploc bags to put those dishes in, some individually wrapped cotton swabs, some rubber gloves, some identification stickers for your samples, and a fairly in-depth instruction book, complete with pictures of different mold types you may come across. I was actually very impressed with the care that was taken in order to make sure that the agar plates were not contaminated. The plates were sealed in plastic and then that bag was put in another bag and vacuum sealed, and then that combination was put in yet another bag and vacuum sealed. If you test an area and can’t match it to any of the pictures, you are instructed to send a picture to the manufacturer of the mold test kit, and they will tell you what you have found. I have tested the air coming out of my vents and also some leather boots in the closet, and so far, after two days, I have not seen anything growing yet. The instructions say that it could possibly take as much as three or four days in order to see something. If I get anything in my Petri dishes soon, I will edit this review to include photos of those. In summary, if you want to try and test your home and surroundings for mold, this could be a good choice.EDITED TO ADD: Okay, I was starting to wonder, but this really does work. I took a sample from some leather boots in the closet that I knew had mold on them (you know how leather likes to mold when in a closet), and I got lots of growth. I’m not sure what it is yet, though.

We moved into a brand-new apartment complex as the first-ever occupants of our unit. It felt exciting at first—everything fresh, clean, and untouched. But there was one nagging issue we couldn't shake: the air inside always felt stale, especially when the AC fan was off. There was this persistent, musty odor that we assumed was coming from the bare-cement parking deck attached to our corner wall. We never imagined it could be mold. After weeks—months—of frustration, we decided to get this mold test kit. It literally was a lifesaver, The kit came with three individual tests, which meant we could check different areas (including surfaces, the HVAC system, and indoor air quality). Using it was straightforward—it felt almost like a DIY science project, but one with serious implications. When the results came in, it confirmed what we suspected: there were mold particles in the air. Now, armed with actual evidence, we feel much more confident demanding the property manager address the issue. This kit not only helped us understand the problem but gave us the leverage we needed to push for a solution (don't blame it on our cat-child!). If you're dealing with mysterious smells or stale air at home, this kit is a great starting point. 14 bucks? That's a bargain for better health, a sharper lifestyle, and holding onto the last threads of my sanity!PS.There's a 50% coupon for this item at the time of this writing. I hope you made it in time!

I wouldn't panic too much if you have mold spores, they are extremely difficult to get rid of completely. Out of my attempts to grow gourmet mushrooms and from the tutorials I have watched I have learned mold spores are just about everywhere. The first time I used the kit in a room no mold grew, but on my second attempt in a different room mold did grow after a few days. I assume that it is best to put the containers in a dark place with a warmer temperature around 75° or 80° F, after you use the containers to test wherever you want to test.I tried uploading more pictures but they are not uploading at the moment for whatever reason. The kit works and it comes with everything you need to test a room or a surface for mold. The instructions are decent but I couldn't find directions for how warm it should be when you put the containers in a dark place for a few days.

There are typos in the instructions which don't give me the "warm and fuzzies" about this project. One direction stated to leave the top of the test kit "on" and then later instructed you to put the top of the test kit "on" (after some timeperiod). The "free lab analysis" is just sending a picture of the mold to an email address. That doesn't sound very scientific to me. You're basically expected to sample the air and raise the mold colony (if any) on your own. Then, you are going to attempt to identify this mold from the very tiny pictures in the manual. This is a very inexpensive test kit, but I just don't feel like it will be in any way accurate.
