I have a long acquaintance with the medium-point Pilot Varsity pens and have found them to be probably the biggest bang for the buck among fountain pens. They write first time every time, and, as another reviewer mentioned, they are refillable; I have done so many times. Search YouTube for the text string "refill pilot varsity fountain pen" to find Kenneth Lee's video on that subject. Now the fine-point Varsities have become available. I got my 10-pack today, and I am pleased to report that these appear to be just as good as their medium-point brothers. I wrote a page in my journal with no runs, no skips, and no . . . well, I won't say no errors, but those would be my fault, not the pens. The nib is a genuine fine-point, as Japanese nibs tend to be (good for writing kanji), and even better, an even finer line can be obtained by rotating the pen 180 degrees and writing on the back of the nib. Even upside down, the writing is steady and reliable. The nib is a "nail" in fountain pen jargon, which means that it does not flex. That is good for those times when accuracy of the written line is required (reference back to writing kanji). Finally, I tried attaching the plastic tube that I use for refilling the other Varsities, and it fits perfectly, which means that these are just as refillable and the medium-point pens are -- great news. All in all, two thumbs and two big toes up.Now if Pilot would only make a Varsity with a stub nib.

This Pilot V-Pen seems to be a Japan version of Pilot Varsity. However, it's similarly excellent quality. I like the smooth and wet ink flow, as well as the very dark color. I agree with others that it's even smoother than many expensive fountain pens. Very happy with the purchase.I heard such disposable fountain pens are actually refillable (I found a YouTube video on how to do it). Can't wait to try it out after the current ink runs out.

My favorite parts of this product are:1. I don't have to refill them. I use them and then toss them. Trying to refill a fountain pen can be a real drag, man. No thank you. This rocks.2. My pens don't walk away. People don't come to my desk and take them because most of my office colleagues have no idea what to do with a fountain pen.3. My notes at work always look better than the next person's. Take that, Shonda.

These are nice fountain pens to have if you don’t want to invest in or carry an expensive fountain pen. They have a good supply of black ink. The pen fits nicely in my hand. The fine nib writes well but is wider than I like, I have taken to holding the pen so that I am writing with the back of the nib and that works great for me. It is not quite as smooth as writing with the correct side of the nib but it is still very smooth and puts less ink on the page so it works for me. I was a little disappointed with them until I tried writing with the back of the nib but I am now on my second box of pens.

I have loved these pens for years - the latest shipment I received, however, have just been awful. The flow of ink is incredibly limited now and defeats the purpose completely. They’re now extremely difficult to use.Unsure if there has been an error with this batch, if I got some factory seconds? It’s a shame because I would usually recommend these pens to people and they were my go to pen while studying, but this was a real shame.

I like fountain pens for the smoothness of writing. Decided to give these a try as I just resurrected my expensive fountain pen. But don't always want to carry it everywhere. I really wanted to say that my expensive (~$120) pen writes better. But it doesn't. It feels better in the hand because it's a luxury item. But these pens write every bit as smooth. What's cool about fountain pens is they take no pressure at all to write. The ink feed in these pens is actually better than my expensive pen.

Update After Using For 6 MonthsThis pen has been my primary pen for 6 months now and it is only fair I give it another review. I like using it, but there are a few issues I have with it and I have listed my pros and cons below:Pros: Improves Handwriting, Ink Dries Fast, Ink does not stain my hands (unlike other fountain I've used).Cons: If you write on a paper and it happens to get wet with any droplets whatsoever -water, sweat, etc.- The ink will run and smear, sometimes it can even make the writing illegible.I would recommend using to improve handwriting and to make personal notes, but DO NOT USE ON: Assignments, Projects, or on any work you value.

This is one of my favorite fountain pens to introduce new FP writers to the style. It's inexpensive, no frills, difficult to damage the nib (I've dropped these tip-down on warehouse floors to minimal damage) and also if you're willing to get your fingers a little inky- refillable as well. Even though it's an eyedropper style pen, a fiber-like material in the feed prevents burping by regulating airflow. If you're looking for the next step up- I'd recommend a Pilot Explorer.

These pens are surprisingly good for their price. The steel nib probably has a lot to do with the very smooth flow and quality of writing. These are fine point, and look fantastic. I have not seen any interruptions in ink flow even at quick writing speeds. Recommended.

I own numerous fountain pens, from the high end to the disposable types like this. As a consultant, I carry a journal and am constantly making/taking notes from various meetings and I prefer to do so using a fountain pen. I especially like the fine point and the clean and sharp looking results I obtain by using these pens. As others have noted, these pens are inexpensive enough that if one is misplaced or gets broken while at a client site, it is not the end of the world. I purchased these pens a year ago, and am still using some of the remaining pens (although I will admit I have a couple laying around in various drawers as well as on the desk). I am so impressed with these (black) fountain pens, I am going to purchase the same set using blue ink. When I have completely exhausted this pack, I will definitely purchase another.
