I am so excited I found this product. The problem I was trying to prevent leaves from getting into my underground pipes than run off the bottom of my downspouts. I figured I could either prevent the leaves from getting into the gutters in the first place with gutter guards, filter out the leaves where the enter the downspout hole a the top of the gutter, or filter them out at the bottom of the downspout, which is what this product does. The reason installing gutters is frankly, dumb and a waste of money is twofold: you still will need to get your gutters cleaned, and when you do the company will charge you extra to navigate around your gutter guards, which they might not even be able to remove for cleaning. Second, gutter guards don't work well when you need them the most: during a heavy downpout. Finally, you need to cover the entire length of your gutter for a gutter cover solution, which is expensive. It is cheaper and works better to buy these and just have your gutters twice a year instead. As for inserting a small filter ring at the top of the downspout opening, that wont work because they clog too easily at that point. You actually WANT the leaves to come down the spout if they might clog the opening at the top.Now to this product. I installed them myself. It does take time to install, about a half hour to 45 minutes each. This version has two leaf filters, a simple plastic guard for large leaves and mesh screen for small debris. The cover is key because it hides these ugly filters completely, and prevents snow from getting in in winter. I haven't seen any other models like this that have two filters and have a cover. The gravitational speed of the water falling down the downsput assist the ability to filter out the leaves easily.

This product it working great. I purchased this product because of a large pine tree on the side of my house. The pine cones from the tree have been dropping down the roof downspout drain lines and we're getting stuck creating a backup. I don't use the cover portion of this item as in my case it is not needed. The cones just land on the ground beside it and the rain water is able to flow through perfectly. Thank you so much, what a great product.

Work great! No problems through 1 Minnesota winter with it. I use it to stop debris from getting in the pipe that runs underground under my patio. That's a tough one to clean out so better not to let the debris get in there in the first place. Install was simple. My first time ever working with downspouts and sheet metal and i managed fine. Had to go buy some cutting tools but that's a good investment.

I bought it from Rain harvesting pty ltdThe main part of the system the filter screen is broken and some one glued it without installing the filter screen properly. I paid for new product but I received refurbished one. Here are the pictures if Rain harvesting pty ltd want to have a look.

I have two of these and they are the cornerstone of my water collection system. I have one on each downspout connected then with PVC to the inlet on my large tanks. I initially had one like this, but with a first flush filter system. I removed that and put one of these in instead. I found that for my needs, this thing filters out most everything that it should. One thing I would recommend though is to get PVC primer and glue as there is one part that converts this from metric to SAE schedule 40 PVC and will not stay together on its own. It is really simple though. Combine this filter with regular Schedule 40 PVC pipe and you can plumb this up to your tank really simple. It also looks very nice and finished. Even my wife commented on how attractive they are.I took off one star as the top lid is still only in metric and therefor does not exactly fit standard downspout sizes here in the USA. It is minor, but leaves a gap that I had to fill.

The rain head arrived fairly well packaged, but upon taking it out of the box and inspecting all the parts, I found that the stainless mesh screen was not fully inserted into the groove that holds it into place in the plastic mounting frame. The front edge was not seated, and there were two 'tabs' along the front edge of the mesh that I had to carefully guide back through their appropriate slots in order to get the mesh to seat fully and properly. It was delicate work, but easily accomplished with some patience. This wasn't enough of an issue for me to want to return it for an exchange, but I do feel that it is worth mentioning as I believe this was due to an oversight of product QA before it gets shipped out the door, as there was no damage to the screen mesh to indicate that it was originally properly installed and subsequently pushed out of place. If I hadn't inspected the unit prior to installation, this would have left a large enough gap for mosquitos to fly through and find a wonderful breeding ground within my 550 gallon rain collection setup... Not to mention it would have also let particulates through, defeating the entire purpose of the unit. If it weren't for this, I would have given it a full 5 star rating.Overall operation of it is great! It works exactly as intended, and the self clearing design of the screen works beautifully! Having a hinged cover is another nice touch, as it makes the aesthetics much more pleasing to the eye. This could be a big plus for those that have to deal with overzealous homeowner association rules. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing to do some form of leaf/particulate filtering of their downspouts.
