Works great. I use it for handrail bracket and cabinet mounting. Run the level/stud finder across the wall until the red magnet indicaters pop/stick. Works better than any battery operated stud finder I've ever used. I definitely recommend this item to any professional or do it yourselfer.

Loved using this for household projects. Unfortunately, after 13 months of owning it, all the liquid is gone in the horizontal level which is pretty much all that I used for. I did really like it, so I’m going to buy another one, but I really hope this lasts more than a year.

I don’t know a ton about construction but was doing PHD level deep diving on options of how to hang a mirror. It was driving me nuts that my stud finder was only finding studs in the weirdest places and extremely far apart. I figured it was because I got a super basic one so I upgraded to an electric one but that one was also unreliable. Found out about plaster walls so I got this as a last ditch effort and it worked perfectly. I also love that it came with a pushpin (and a place ON the tool to store it) because that’s usually the telltale sign between plaster walls and drywall. It’s such a simple concept for this tool and so rudimentary but it worked incredibly. It’s also really fun seeing the magnet pop lol

I purchased this item as I have a century home and all the walls are thick plaster and lathe. My battery operated stud finder could not find anything! Although it seemed a bit weak, this item found the nails in the studs! I am going to chalk the weakness up to the thick plaster. This item is well worth the money. Do not go buy a electronic stud finder.....get a StudPoP.

So I am not really a NOOB at finding wall studs but i feel like some of the stud finders are a bit miss leading. As some say there are studs there and you go to drill and there is not stud and blah blah blah. So i saw this product and decided to try it out and WOW... it really works. I have used it about 15 times and all 15 times i have found a stud and with this and a stud finder working together best combo yet and i will continue to use this and a stud finder together as this does not detect wires so would be best for me to use both this product and a stud finder.

I've ended up with so many holes in my wall where a stud finder says a stud is, only to have empty space behind the drywall. I have one wall where my studfinder just flashes all the LED's constantly across the whole wall as if it just gives up.I tested this on one wall where I have some semigloss paint so I can actually see the screw heads...I see how it not only locks right on, but if you then move it gently side to side a smidge, you can see the peg rock to one side or the other. Good, now to a wall with standard flat wall paint and no visible screw heads. Four marks, four studs, four perfect holes.The only advice I can give if you're doing figure eights waiting for it to strike, just start near an outlet, so you know you'll hit one quick, then move the distance of your studs (16"/per for me) til you get where you need to be and wham. simple. easy. great purchase. thank you!

The plaster must be too thick in my 120 year old house. Did not work at all. Was good in sheet rock areas.

Only a very slight movement of the indicators on my plaster walls in my 60 year old apartment building. Sometimes they'd move but 16 inches down the wall and no movement. Probably great on sheet rock walls.Update 10/14/18: Upon reading my review I was promptly contacted by the company founder. The StudPop On the Level which I'd originally ordered was replaced with a new unit. I re-tested it on my plaster walls and this time it did accurately and consistantly indicate the studs behind my thick plaster walls. Apparently I had received a defective unit initially, which can happen sometimes.I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent customer care and service I received which seems to be a rarity these days. This is my honest observation and I am in no way affiliated with this company.

Product is very cool, customer service is even better. Mine actually arrived without the grip pin which bothered me at first, but customer service offered to immediately replace the whole unit (and, it turns out, it's just a standard pushpin—of which I have plenty. I also like the design choice to use an easily replaceable part for the loose part that might be lost).More importantly, it actually works on my plaster walls and takes all the guesswork out. I particularly like the blank holes through the level which you can use to mark the wall for pre-drilling or fastening without moving the studfinder. Very smart!I'm honestly not sure why battery operated studfinders have existed for so long, since this does the job perfectly.
