The old fashioned way. This very simple slide viewer is exactly like the one I have at another house. The box is still the same. Very handy when sorting and scanning just some slides. It consists of: A triangular metal box with one side open and ready for the plastic, grooved slide holder, a hole for a low-light light bulb. That's about it. Take care of it and it will last for years. My first one is still extant.

This product does provide a great platform for viewing a large number of slides. It is easy to assemble and works relatively well. The only concern I have is that the plastic viewer which is supposed to fit over the metal frame keeps "popping" off. I needed to use tape at the corners in order to make sure it remained stable when handling slides.

Good points the metal bits were well made and functioned as designed. The bad points the plastic bit were flimsy had flow issues and corner was cracked not due to shipping.I ended up buying a used x-ray film viewer which works quite well.

When you look at the cheaply made ill-fitting pieces you have to cobble together you think I paid $45 for this??? But when you are sorting thousands of slides you are so grateful you spent the money. It is very worth it for the value you get in assisting viewing and sorting your slides. It does not magnify them but you can look at 40 or so slides at a time to determine what is on them and the ridges keep them from sliding off. You do not have to stick to standard size pictures, as you just lay them on the plastic viewing surface. Yes it is cheaply made, the metal stand is sturdy but the parts you put it together with are junky. elastic bands to hold the plastic in place, rubber o rings to hold the light bulb assembly in, Looks like a seventh grade wood shop project, but it works!

This product met my expectations, with one caveat. The front "screen" arrived out of the box with dark spots in the plastic. The dark spots (which were bad enough to be a problem in viewing photos) were induced by stress on the plastic material itself and were symmetrically located near the screen's four corners, as though a heavy four-footed weight had been placed on the screen. I called the manufacturer's customer service, which asked for a photo of the screen. I sent them a picture (which I include with this review), and in a few days I had a no-cost replacement screen that was perfect. So I give the manufacturer's customer service high marks. The item I received from Amazon was packed extremely well, so the screen could not have been damaged after packing. The quality control process could have and should have caught the damage to the screen before packing. The base of the unit is nicely enameled steel of substantial weight. The light bulb receptacle fits into a hole in the back of the unit and is secured by two rubber O-rings or washers. This is rather a questionable design, although it does not seem to make an actual problem in regular use -- when not subjected to bumping or to any pulling on the power cord. The screen fits onto the hinged steel "wings" on the side of the base and is held onto the base at the top and bottom by two very light-duty elastic bands secured in holes in the wings. How long the bands will last would be a question, but they should be easy to replace if they break.Overall, the product's simple design should be adequate for the intended purpose, and its cost-effectiveness for home use probably could not be improved upon. One helpful hint: I bought a two-bulb receptacle and installed it in the unit's provided single-bulb receptacle, and in it I installed two 60-watt LED bulbs with a "daylight" spectrum. This is probably the best combination for viewing slides, especially ones that are underexposed. Bulbs with a warm-light spectrum definitely proved unsatisfactory, making photos seem off-color, low-contrast, and dim.

Got this for my in-Laws to view their slides. They are 75 & 90 yrs old and their not into high tec gadgets. Cell phones mix them up!! this is simple and easy for them to view their slides. Just drop them on and there they are!! the sorter holds 40 slides at once that is the 2x2 slides. There is on suggestion I would like to give. Go to your local home improvement store and get a two way bulb holder (see pic) then I put 2 stubby led 60 watt bulbs in them which gave them 120 watts of light for 40 watts of power with low heat. I also told them to get their large magnifying glass if they wanted to see them bigger. Works Great and low tec!!

So, had an old slide sorter, which did not collapse, and did a great job. Alas, it is gone. Was surprised at the price, but need it for a huge job for my wife's family's photos. Bought it and was pleasantly surprised at it being collapsible. And, shipping speed was terrific. Now the bad .. plastic came marred (defect within the plastic) so it shows thru a number of slides. And, they have this flimsy elastic that is supposed to hold the plastic on and interferes with usage of the top "shelf" for slides. Will be resorting to taping it on.Since they are the only game in town, they can charge what they want, but very flimsy and definitely over priced.

Disappointed. The tray in which slides are mounted is very flimsy, it does not snap or click firmly into place on the metal base, which is itself rather cheaply constructed. I cannot imagine how/why this costs as much as it does. It is an unfortunate habit of mine to destroy packaging when I unpack an item or this would be on its way back to Amazon right now.Oh, one other thing, I suppose this is on me: it ships without a bulb. I guess I missed in the description where it said that you'll get everything you need to view slides except a light bulb to illuminate the slides. So: it is FLIMSY, it does not assemble into a solid product (you are supposed to use supplied elastic to keep it in place), it does not ship with a bulb, and the tray delivered is not the tray shown in the illustration.Skip it.
