I had a tough time figuring out the wifi on this system. It turns out you have to set it to use Aprilaire Cloud which is off by default. Here is the blurb from their website:How do I connect my new 8810, 8820, 8830 or 8840 to the app?By default, these thermostats are configured to work with most home automation systems. To work with the AprilAire app, the internal setting that controls this needs to be switched to AprilAire Cloud. Follow the steps to switch to AprilAire Cloud. On an 8810, set the thermostat to Off mode. Next, press and hold the Mode and Up Arrow buttons for 3 seconds until the screen changes to 00. Look at the number in the upper, right-hand corner. Use the up or down arrow button to change this to 0. Press Mode repeatedly until the word Done appears. The thermostat is now able to be configured for use with the AprilAire App.On an 8820 or 8830, set the thermostat to the Off mode. Next, press Menu once and then hold Setup for 7-10 seconds, until the message “Installer Setup Enabled” appears. Release the Setup button and then tap Install Setup once. Press the Next button once, and you should see option 00 appear. Press the Up or Down Arrow to change the setting to AprilAire Cloud, then press Done twice. The thermostat is now able to be configured for use with the AprilAire App.On an 8840, press Menu and then hold Contractor Info for 10 seconds. When the message “Enter installer settings?” appears, tap Yes. The thermostat will reboot in the configuration mode. Select General and change the first setting to AprilAire Cloud. Press Next until Done appears, then press Done twice. When the message “Are you sure you want to exit the Installer Settings?” appears, press Yes. The thermostat will reboot and will be able to be configured for use with the AprilAire App.I had the 8810 model and once I did the step above, wifi worked. I will say it did pull down a firmware update as soon as it go connected but that is good thing. I hope this helps anyone struggling with this unit!

This product marginally worked, then they updated the app, and now it doesn't work. The app says that it needs a firmware update, but there are no instructions on how to update the firmware. It is even more infuriating that the instruction manuals use Aprilaire specific marketing jargon so you can't figure out if the system is actually working properly. For example, what exactly does CleanAir mean? Does this mean outside air or just running air through the filter? It is kind of a shame because the ducting hardware and air splits actually seem pretty well built.

This unit was installed for two new home systems. Neither works reliably with Alexa - to the extent that April Air's claim is essentially false. The accompanying phone app is just as bad with a slow load and finicky connections.

WiFi connection does not work, and customer service are lying to deny the responsibility for poor product.I then called customer service for support. They basically repeated exactly what the manual said and asked me to repeat all the steps. When the guy figured that none of these steps work he basically told me that he will check my thermostat over the "monitor" system and claimed that I missed one step. I was thinking "are you stupid, we are having WiFi problem here?", but I just repeat the step anyway so that I can move on.However, the guy just keep tell me that I am missing "that step". I got tired of this BS and unplug the thermostat from the power. Then I asked the guy again about my system status, and he still tell me that "I missed that step" even if my thermostat is no longer powered. I tried to confront the customer service for his lies but he just hangup after that.

I have 2 thermostats in my own. The 8840 and 8810. This 8810 is a scam. It does not connect to the internet. I have reported to the vendor and he replaced it. the same problem came up.. Aprilaire should accept responsibility for this failed product... I'm pained!
