Having had an almost silent experience with the 20g version I thought I’d purchase the 40g for a larger tank. I’m wanting the slower flow as opposed to my canister filter, but really disappointed at how loud this is. It sounds like some of the hotel a/c units that have kept me awake while traveling. I double checked and there are no linked lines that might be the cause.Nothing quiet about this at all. I’m literally sitting in another room and can hear it from here. This size is a no-go.

After a month, it became so loud you could hear it throughout the house. The air flow was also weak. Don’t waste your money! Cheaper brands have worked much better for me.

Good base on pump to help with noise and vibration, wish I would’ve upgraded to the higher volume pump with two outputs to feed two lines in tank but can still split between two small airstones with a Y connector.

Looked good but comes with a two pin plug. Thought it was just from Europe so was going to cut plug of and replace with a standard UK plug. After checking electrical dater sticker on the pump it states 120v. So I think it came from America and is meant for the US market which is probably why it took so long to arrive. I re checked on the Amazon listing for the pump but nowhere does it give the voltage rating or any indication that it’s not for UK mains 240v. You could run it on a transformer if you wanted to but not worth the hassle and extra expense in my opinion. Returning and refund was no problem.

I use this to run an air-stone equipped Aquarium Co-op Sponge filter. and it does so perfectly. best part is that it has a built in filter (cotton batting) on the bottom of itself, along with a pre-installed check-valve. so all you need is tubing and / or whatever you're connecting it to and you are good to go. i sit with it on full, approximately 3 feet away, and can barely hear it. so for those that are sensitive to noise, this is a good one

Quiet enough for me to get to sleep. Yes, it works absolutely as recommended but geeze louize I just wanted something that was quiet enough to let me sleep in my bedroom since my tanks are all in there with me...I have 5 tanks in my room (its a big room) and have tried many different pumps over the years. I keep coming back to this pump because it is the quietest one without breaking my bank. I have 3 pumps all going at the same time and it is quiet so I can finally sleep in my own bed again. I know you can't see me but I'm dancing a jig right now!!!! Worth every penny. So happy:)

In my experience these have been slightly quieter than the Tetra pumps. I own the 10 and a 20. Smaller and a more upright footprint with a thick rubber bottom and feet to aid in vibration and noise. The built-in check valve is something they could all easily offer (really should for safety with new hobbyists) and these are actually serviceable. This appears to be a popular 30 year old design that they resurrected in recent years. In 2020 it's rare that they let you easily open what you purchase. Pumps can get noisier over time and a simple screwdriver can sometimes fix that. They aren't expensive but some people still prefer to fix what breaks in our disposable society.The Tetra pumps are fine but these are now my go-to, cheap pump. And I like to support a Wisconsin company. Which I didn't even know at the time of purchase.

Currently using in my 20 gallon tank, works perfectly. Fan of the Aqueon line up of products, both their airpumps and their tank filters. Virtually silent, almost like it's not there.
